Fearless Aging:

An Original Rosie

STOP EVERYTHING! And check out THIS amazing 6min StoryCorps but local rockstar, Ms. Betty Reid Soskin.

“Rosie the Riveter, as a concept, leaves out an awful lot of history…”

Ms. Soskin currently works at the Rosie the Riveter Museum in Richmond, California, is 94 years old and 6 compelling minutes, gives listeners a snapshot of her experience working in the Richmond shipyards, as well as the social changes that she witnessed.

For folks that can sneak out of work on Thursday mornings (or Sat, April 9th at 2pm), the park is also hosting “Of Lost Conversations”, where Ms. Soskin will discuss “her experiences as a young African American woman during WWII.” (See event HERE). What an awesome experience, to hear such a fascinating piece of our local and national history, directly from her experience. I’m embarrassed to say I still haven’t been to this museum or had a chance to hear Ms. Soskin speak yet, but now that I’ve posted about it, I HAVE to visit.

And I have just the friend to drag along…
